  • Succession planning

Succession planning is a process for identifying and developing internal people with the potential to fill key roles within the organisation. It increases the availability of experienced and capable people that are prepared to assume these roles as they become available. It is a vital element of business planning yet still people think like this: “Why do I need a succession plan? I am very alert. I am very vibrant. I have no intention of retiring?”  Succession planning is needed at all levels of an organisation, not just when we come to think about senior managers or leaders. New Zealand businesses are littered with managers and supervisors who are in post because they were good at something else!

  • Resilience in the workplace – thrive, not just survive

Resilience is the ability to adapt to life’s misfortunes and setbacks. It won’t make the problems go away but it will give us the ability to see past them. It will help us find enjoyment in life and it will assist us in handling stress better. We can develop skills to become more resilient and we need these skills especially during times of change or when the going is tough.

  • Develop Future Leaders

All successful organisations have to focus not only on the short term but on the longer term – where are we going, how are we going to get there, who is going to lead us? The ‘head in the sand’ view is summed up in this comment: “Why do I need a succession plan? I am very alert. I am very vibrant. I have no intention of retiring”. The organisation that is here for the long term is looking for and developing leaders at all levels, all the time.

  • Multi-cultural Workplaces

Our workplaces in New Zealand are becoming increasingly diverse with full-time, part-time and casual staff from around the globe. Multi-cultural workplaces have a richness and diversity not found in single culture organisations. They do however present a number of challenges – communication where English is not the main language, dealing with prejudice, understanding other cultures and their differences, respecting differences and achieving the goals of the organisation. This programme explores multi-cultural workplaces in detail, the benefits they bring to working life and strategies for overcoming potential problems.

  • Change and how to go about it

It is often suggested that the only constant in life today is change. Change is all around us – at work, at home, in our social life, in politics, in the financial world and so on. There is no escaping change. However we all respond differently - some of us embrace it, some try to hide, others resist, others deny, some love it and want more!  How we respond to change has a major impact on our lives and especially on our workplaces. We can learn to manage change effectively, even if we don’t particularly want it.

  • Introduction to People Management

There are those who enter Supervisory/Team Leader positions because they are very good workers and find themselves having responsibility for employees. It is hoped that they would have a good idea of how to manage employees which is not always the case (just as in parenting......everyone who has a child doesn’t necessarily know how to parent well, and some key practical strategies will put them on the right track). This seminar seeks to do the same by providing some first principles of managing employees.
