9.00am – 10.00am    Law Changes Affecting Payroll
Changes in payroll-related legislation have been introduced since our last conference.  What do those changes mean for employers? 
Session includes the requirement to have employment agreements on file, an in-depth look at the issues surrounding cashing up of annual holidays, and an update on what Government has foreshadowed for this Parliamentary term and how those changes might impact on the payroll scene.

10.00am – 10.40am    KiwiSaver Update
The KiwiSaver scheme is changing again – as of 1 April the KiwiSaver employer contributions are taxed.  This change can affect employment agreements, total cost remuneration pay schemes and salary sacrifice arrangements.  What are the implications for employers with the planned 2013 KiwiSaver contributions?

Sick leave remains one of the most challenging areas for employers to manage. 
For example entitlement to paid sick leave, anticipation of sick leave, medical certificates, regular absences, managing employee absences, recording of sick leave, payment for sick leave, and other related matters.

In 2011 the ‘Sleepover Case’ was decided in the Court of Appeal. 
Parliament enacted legislation resolving how some people with claims would be paid. 
This session discusses the outcome of the case, the matters which have been left unresolved and the lessons for employers.

The rules of engagement – a critical area in the employer-employee relationship. 
The employment agreement can spell out how this relationship will operate with appropriate protections in place for both parties. 
The essential requirements of the agreement and the usefulness of considering other provisions to serve the interests of the parties will be addressed in this session.

Parliament has reintroduced experience ratings on work related accidents which has the potential to markedly affect ACC levies. 
This increases the responsibility for all staff involved in managing ACC to ensure claims for work-related accidents are managed to protect the employer’s interests. 
Delegates will hear about the claims process, handling disputed work-related claims, the process of experience rating, rehabilitation and incapacity.
