About Blair

Blair is a graduate of Victoria University and was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1997.

Blair commenced his career in the public sector in a variety of legal and investigative roles with the Department of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Social Development. He then moved to the private sector where he worked for Telecom New Zealand Limited as an employment relations specialist and HR team leader before joining EMA Central in 2005 and then EMA Legal in 2006.

Blair runs a number of popular in-house and public courses on employment law issues, specialising in the area of termination of employment. He represents members in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court, and advises on major restructures, including the closure in 2007 of two major Wellington manufacturing businesses. Most recently, he successfully represented the employer in the Employment Court case Arthur D Riley & Co Ltd v Wood with Tim Cleary from EMA Legal.
